Gir National Park and Sanctuary received PPF advance of Rs. 30 lakhs. The amount was provided to complete the project design, to finance village eco-development activities (establishing credibility), organising workshops, study tours, special studies, purchasing office equipments etc.

Out of the total fund of Rs. 30 lakhs an amount of 7.98 lakhs was spent in the. financial year 1995-96 and Rs. 21.90 lakhs have been spent in the financial year 1996-97.

Various activities like installation of gobar gas plants, parapet wall around open wells, construction of check dams, van talavadis, installation of hand pumps, solar lights etc. were taken up to establish credibility with local villagers and maldharis. In addition, study tours, awareness campaigns, workshops and staff training were also organised.
